Illegal Distribution by Doctors
So I have often wondered if some doctors are taking part in the increasing rates of addiction. Are some doctors just writing prescriptions to guarantee a customer? Well I found quite a few incidences that involve doctors getting caught distributing painkillers illegally.
In Ohio, an owner of three medical clinics and six doctors who work there have been charged with the illegal distribution of prescription painkillers. Allegations say that many customers visited the clinic once a week in central and southern Ohio to pay up to $200 for their pills, some even traveled several hundred miles to get there. Federal prosecutors even say that the owner, Tracy Bias, opened unlicensed dispensaries when some local pharmacists refused to fill prescriptions from the clinics. Prescriptions were given out without the proper medical examinations and even resulted in the death of 2 patients.
A Growing Trend of Pharmacy Robberies
I am sure if you pay attention to the news, you are aware of a growing trend of pharmacy robberies. People are resorting to this behavior in order to get their hands on painkilller prescriptions. Many people think that robberies are increasing because of the latest legislation being passed which requires drug companies to make forms that are harder to be snorted or injected. Thieves have discovered that pharmacies still have some of the older versions on hand. Other reasons could just boil down to the fact that the street value for these narcotics is outrageous. Some of the robberies have been nonviolent, while others have turned deadly, but the problem is definitely on the rise. Below is a list of just a few reports from different regions that I have read about. Some of the facts are daunting.
